World News – CA – Philippines’ COVID-19 total exceeds 356,000

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country topped 356,000 on Sunday, October 18, following the addition of 2,379 confirmed cases, the Department of Health (DOH) said

With these new cases coming from all but 14 testing labs, the total number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines now stands at 356,618

Of the new cases, 1,580 occurred in the past two weeks, while the rest were before this period

Quezon City contributed the most new cases on Sunday, with 172, followed by Rizal, with 147; Bulacan, 136; Caloocan City, 117; and Cavite, 101

Not counting deaths and recoveries, 39,808 are active cases, or 11% of the country’s total cases Of active cases, 828% have mild symptoms, 115% are asymptomatic, 19% have severe symptoms and 37% are critical

The percentage of severe cases is a bit higher than last week’s 18%, but the critical case rate has declined slightly from the 39% reported a week ago

The DOH also recorded 14,941 new recoveries on Sunday Most of them are due to DOH’s weekly Oplan recovery program, where mild and asymptomatic cases are marked as cures based on discharge criteria based on the weather and symptoms

Of these deaths, 18 were in October, 14 in September, 8 in August and 10 from June to July

Additionally, 31 of those deaths were from Metro Manila, while the rest were from the following regions:

The DOH also reported that 99 duplicates, including 84 recovered cases and 1 death, were removed from the counts Then 11 cases previously reported as healings turned out to be deaths after further validation – Rapplercom
