A 34-year-old Darling Downs mother has drowned during a holiday swim with her daughter at a Sunshine Coast beach, despite the efforts of surfers and an off-duty surf life saver to help her.
Emergency services were called to First Bay at Coolum, off Jubilee Esplanade, just after 6.30am on Monday after reports of the incident, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said.
The woman, who Nine reported had been swimming with her 11-year-old daughter before being pulled to shore by surfers, was treated at the scene but could not be revived.
No other patients were treated by paramedics. A Queensland police spokeswoman said the Toowoomba woman had been holidaying in the area.
The off-duty life saver performed CPR on her until paramedics arrived, Surf Life Saving Queensland said in a statement.
“SLSQ reminds all swimmers to only swim between the red and yellow flags at patrolled locations.”
