W24News – GB – Judd Trump to face Neil Robertson in English Open final

Judd Trump will face Neil Robertson in Sunday’s English Open final after beating John Higgins 6-4 at Milton Keynes

Quadruple world champion Higgins got the upper hand in the early stages and, with the help of two breaks of the century, went 4-3

But world number one Trump took the next three frames and while leading 5-4 in the 10th, a score of 73 sealed victory

“I thought I was wrong,” Trump told Eurosport “I was in it, he played well in the frames where he scored heavy

“But towards the end he had a few chances and in the last frame he was a little unlucky when he made a mistake, otherwise it would have been 5-5”

After Trump drew 2-2 with a 102 break, Higgins drew 133 over the next and a second century – 107 – put him 4-3 ahead, but the Scotsman had to pay for multiple mistakes

Robertson stayed on track to become the first player to win his 19th title, beating defending champion Mark Selby 6-5

Trump added: “He’s a real big goalscorer and obviously had a tough game against Selby so he’ll be eager to get another title under his belt.

“It’s another game that I will enjoy I like to play with him. Hopefully for me it’s a battle of scores and I can get the upper hand”

Robertson took a 2-0 lead after clinching two cautious opening frames and also led 4-2 and 5-3, but each time Selby struggled to get back to the level before the ‘Australian does not seal his place in the final with a 92-break in the decision maker

Three-time world champion Selby took the first century break (117) in the third quarter, but Robertson scored 134 and 129 to forge 5-3

Selby beat a tight ninth frame and tied at 5-5 with his fourth half-century break of the game, but Robertson was not to be turned down

“Mark was tougher than ever,” Robertson told wstla TV “I had most of the ball run, we had a joke about it at the end

“But you have to take it when it’s convenient for you I was lucky in the last frame when I missed the long red and left nothing of Mark”
