Judd Trump feels that if Ronnie O’Sullivan has genuine concerns about the World Snooker Championship then he should just pull out and give someone else a chance.
The Rocket has voiced concerns over a crowd being let into the Crucible, describing snooker players as ‘lab rats’ as the World Championship is being used as a test event in bringing live audiences back to sport.
O’Sullivan will be playing in Sheffield, having drawn Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in a brilliant first round tie, but he had previously threatened to pull out over health and safety fears.
The world champion thinks that if Ronnie genuinely is concerned about the Crucible set-up then it would be better for him to stay at home and let another player experience the World Championship.
Trump is not so sure O’Sullivan is being genuine with his concerns, suggesting he is looking for some pre-tournament publicity.
‘I have been around the game long enough to know that if there is a World Championship coming up, he [O’Sullivan] is going to try to get the headlines,’ said Judd.
‘Of all people, Ronnie is probably the only one who doesn’t need the money, so I find it quite hard that he can enter it and have a go at what is going on. Just pull out and let someone else have a go.
‘Everyone has a choice to play in this event, if you don’t like the conditions, just sit at home.’
The world number one is delighted to see the World Championship on and with a crowd as he looks to become the first player ever to defend his world title at the Crucible after winning for the first time in Sheffield.
He is putting his faith in WST’s methods to deal with coronavirus and is proud that snooker is leading the way back to normality.
‘If it was another sport leading the way, then all the players will be asking questions about why it wasn’t us.
‘We are at the forefront of the whole world of sport at the moment and at some point there has to be a crowd.
‘When is too soon? Nobody knows, but you have got to get back to it at some point and there are always going to be the same questions asked when it did come back, so why not now?’
