Scotland to be hit by heavy rain tonight as Met Office issue weather warning

Heavy rain is expected to cause flooding of ‘few homes and businesses’ with bus and train services also affected by the downpoars.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for storms and flooding across many parts of Scotland tonight.

Forecasters put the warning in place for large parts of the country until midnight on Friday, July 31.

It comes after temperatures rocketed during the day with many soaking up the sun as lockdown restrictions were eased.

Heavy rain is expected to cause flooding of ‘few homes and businesses’ with bus and train services also affected by the downpoars.

A statement from The Met Office read: Areas of heavy rain have broken out and are moving northeastwards across parts of Scotland this evening.

“Where heavy rain occurs, 10-20 mm rain is possible in an hour or two and thunder and lightning are possible in a few places too.”

The regions affected are: Angus, Clackmannanshire, Dundee, Falkirk, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Dumfries and Galloway, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian Council, Scottish Borders, West Lothian, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire.

It comes after many parts of the country basked in a mini heatwave on Friday afternoon.
