JOHANNESBURG – Lawyers representing the wife of former cabinet minister Malusi Gigaba said on Monday they will be challenging the involvement of the Hawks in the case against their client.
Norma Gigaba appeared briefly before the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of malicious damage to property and crimen injuria.
This follows her arrest last week Friday after her husband opened a case against her claiming she had damaged a luxury motorcar.
One of Gigaba’s lawyers, Victor Nkhwashu said she has been traumatised by her overnight stay in Brooklyn Police Station’s holding cells and they will be probing the involvement of the Hawks in the matter.
Advocacy group Wise 4 Africa said there are many unanswered questions about how she was arrested and it will be following the matter closely.
Gigaba’s bail has been extended until her next court appearance and she has been allowed to return to her marital home.
