A road in Bolton has been shut off this afternoon as emergency services respond to a serious crash. A stretch of Darwen Road in Bromley Cross is currently cordoned off. Police officers, firefighters and paramedics are on the scene. The extent of the injuries in the crash has not yet been confirmed. People have been urged to avoid the area with diversions in place around the scene. The extent of the injuries sustained are not known this time, this is an ongoing serious incident.” A tweet posted by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our crews are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on Darwen Road, Bromley Cross. Road closures and diversions are in place around the scene. Darwen Road remains closed in both directions due to the collision. This is between Bromley Cross Road and Hospital Road with diversions in place. A large section of Darwen Road is closed, with the collision happening outside the Retreat restaurant. Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are currently at the scene, it has been confirmed. Traffic website INRIX says that Darwen Road remains closed in both directions. This is between Hospital Road and Bromley Cross Road. It was first closed just before 1pm. Traffic in the surrounding areas are also being affected.
