The New Yorker fired longtime writer Geoffrey Tobin after he revealed himself at Zoom last month. He was already suspended and is also on leave from CNN, where he is the chief legal analyst for the News Network.

“Today I was fired from @ NewYorker after 27 years as a writer. I will always love the magazine and miss my colleagues and look forward to reading their work”

In the company memo, Stan Duncan, Conde Nast’s chief personnel officer, wrote that “The investigation into Jeffrey Tobin has been completed and, as a result, is no longer affiliated with our company.”

“I want to assure everyone that we take workplace matters seriously. We are committed to fostering an environment in which everyone feels respected and upholds our standards of behavior,” said Duncan.

Toobin, 60, is one of the nation’s most prominent legal authors and commentators and is a former Justice Department advisor who wrote for The New Yorker on everything from the Simpson’s murder trial to the impeachment hearings of President Donald Trump

He has worked with CNN since 2002 and is the author of several books, most recently “Real Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Donald Trump Investigations” which were published in August His 1996 book, “The Run of His Life: The People v e Simpson” is in the FX series

Toobin was suspended by New Yorker on October 15 Vice first reported that he revealed himself during a Zoom meeting with New Yorker and WNYC radio staff

Toobin told Vice that he “made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, thinking I was away from the camera,” adding, “I apologize to my wife, family, friends, and co-workers”

“I thought I wasn’t visible on Zoom,” he told the new port, “I thought nobody in the Zoom call could see me I thought I muted the Zoom video”
