By India Today Sports Desk: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has said that the discussions for outlining the future course of action in relation to the hosting of the Asia Cup 2023 will be taken after the IPL 2023 final. The 2022 Asia Cup finalists, Pakistan, were originally scheduled to host the tournament, but with India not travelling to the country, it has brought challenges. There were proposals to play the tournament in a hybrid model, with Pakistan playing all their matches at home while India played on a neutral venue like the United Arab Emirates. There were suggestions that the tournament could be shifted entirely to a new country, with Sri Lanka coming up as the front runner to host the tournament. Jay Shah had made it clear in 2022 that India was not going to travel to Pakistan. But since then there has not been a clear reply from the BCCI on the developments in respect to the tournament. “The Asia Cup 2023 will be held at a neutral venue,” Shah told media after the BCCI’s AGM. “I am saying this as ACC President. We [India] can’t go there [to Pakistan], they can’t come here. In the past also, Asia Cup has been played at a neutral venue,” Jay Shah had said in 2022. Now the BCCI secretary has revealed that the presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka cricket boards will be present at the IPL final on 28th May in Ahmedabad and discussions will be held to outline the future course of action in relation to the Asia Cup. “The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the Tata IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action in relation to Asia Cup 2023.”
