The umpiring is horrid. There’s been plenty of bad calls this game, and in the game prior and that one there was fairly disgraceful. It led to a Lions goal, awarded close to the goalsquare.
McGrath dived on the ball, yes, but he isn’t even being tackled. Lyons is tussling with him for the ball.
Brisbane get out the back of the Bombers zone and it’s Sam Skinner kicking his first goal.
There’s been three ACL surgeries and over 1000 days since Skinner’s last game of AFL footy.
Adam Saad has been moved to Charlie Cameron for this quarter, he kicked two in the first term.
The AFL announced on Friday that the annual Dreamtime match between Essendon and Richmond will be played in Darwin on Saturday August 22 as the main drawcard for the annual Sir Doug Nicholls round.
But late on Friday doubts suddenly emerged about the match going ahead in the Top End after the Northern Territory government declared three areas in Queensland were coronavirus hotspot areas for people wishing to travel to the territory.
One of those areas is the City of Brisbane. Both Essendon and Richmond play their round 12 matches at the Gabba in the week before they are scheduled to travel to Darwin.
The Bombers toiled hard but the Lions defence held up really well and put in some desperate stuff close to goal.
At the other end Eric Hipwood missed a couple of chances, as did Dayne Zorko and Cam Rayner.
Finally a goal, via Smith for the Bombers. He makes up for that earlier decision to not pass to teammates.
Great ball movement and run from the Bombers and a super crumb and snap from Smith.
Devon Smith the latest culprit, electing to shoot on the run from 50m despite having teammates open.
