The activity lineup includes a 10-year anniversary concert for a band, a game night with cats and a chance to drink wine while potting plants. In addition to Memorial Day activities, here are five fun events for you to check out this weekend in Grand Rapids, May 26-28. The Pyramid Scheme bar is hosting a Rock n’ Roll Blues band from Grand Rapids Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish, for their 10-year anniversary show on Friday, May 26. Doors open at 7 p.m. at the bar, 68 Commerce Ave. SW, with the opening act, The Gasoline Gypsies and Tito Villarreal, starting soon after. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The band has come back to their hometown roots to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of being a group. Their hit songs include “Gasoline” and “Two Face Talkin’.” The Deos Ballet is making their St. Cecilia Music Center debut on Saturday, May 27 with their program, AWAKEN, showcasing six world premiere pieces with choreography from Deos Ballet Artistic Director Tess Sinke and Deos Ballet Faculty Sydney Zelent. The show will include original dance pieces to music such as Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” and work with live musicians to bring the piece to life. Deos’ new piece “Art of Gold” will also be performed as well as “Bitter Earth,” a modern dance piece that has been presented in major dance companies. Second Chance Cats of West Michigan, 1120 Knapp St. NE Ste B, is hosting a night of cards and cats, giving Grand Rapids a chance to game with the furry friends that are up for adoption. While the event is free, there is a $10 donation suggested to keep adoption events like this from continuing at Second Chance Cats. For those with a green thumb and a long week, sip wine and plant succulents at the same time at Spruced Studio on Friday, May 26. The DIY workshop will be from 6-7:30 p.m. and prices range from $28-$48 depending on the container size of succulents you want to arrange. If you are in the mood for live jazz and a variety of wine and food. The Danny Richardson Trio will be performing on Friday, May 26 at GR Noir & Jazz, 35 S. Division Avenue.
