Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Minister of Health Paulette Lenert will hold a press conference this Monday at 5 p.m. after a new government council. New measures are expected in the face of the deterioration of the health situation.

A press conference by the Prime Minister
Xavier Bettel
(DP) and the Minister of Health
Paulette Lenert
(LSAP) will take place this Monday at 5 p.m. and can be followed live, in Luxembourgish and French, on the paperjam.lu website. It will follow an extraordinary council of government decided in an emergency since the previous meeting of ministers took place on Friday.

Obviously, the government still wanted to be informed about the health situation and have a more precise view of its possible evolution in the weeks to come. But also to be able to discuss with the social partners the measures envisaged and their impact.

There is therefore no doubt that new measures or a tightening of those already in place will be on the agenda. While, as of last Friday, the decision was endorsed to reduce the number of telecommuting days from 3 to 4, it should also be strengthened in the private sector. It remains to be seen how high, and whether it will be in “recommended” or “mandatory” form. Group meetings could also be affected, with fewer people in the same place at the same time, outdoors and indoors. The Christmas markets will then be directly concerned. Likewise, as has been the case in Belgium, the hospitality sector could once again be called upon to adapt, as will nightlife establishments.

The government’s ambition, led by experts, will be to do everything possible to slow the rapid deterioration of the health situation, a few weeks before the end of the year celebrations. A crucial period economically for several sectors.
