RC Lens will face Udinese this Saturday at Bollaert for their final warm-up match (6pm, watch live on Lensois.com). Racing have already hosted Italian clubs at Bollaert on several occasions, including Udinese.
We remember of course the 6-0 victory over Lazio Rome after extra time in the 1977-1978 UEFA Cup round of 16 second leg (2-0 loss in the first leg to Rome). Lazio then returned for the round of 16 first leg of the same competition on September 10, 1996 for a 1-0 victory (draw 1-1 at Rome on the return). It was then until 2002 to see RC Lens again face an Italian club in Bollaert with the 2-1 victory against AC Milan on October 29, 2002 in the Champions League group (2-1 defeat at San Siro to go). Then it was Sampdoria who were beaten 2-1 at Bollaert on 15 December 2015 in a group stage with no UEFA Cup home and away matches. The same season, it was precisely Udinese who came forward, eliminating RC Lens in the round of 16 of the 2005-2006 UEFA Cup, on February 23, despite a Lensoise 1-0 victory over a goal by Pierre-Alain Frau after a 3-0 defeat in the first leg. Finally, Parma won 2-1 at Lens on November 29, 2006 during the 2006-2007 UEFA Cup groupings. Note that on October 11, 2018, RC Lens also received a friendly Padua, another club of Joseph Oughourlian who was then in Serie B, for a 2-1 victory.
