The Nord and Pas-de-Calais were, Sunday evening November 28, placed in vigilance to floods and floods. All over the two departments, dozens of roads were submerged and therefore cut off to traffic. In the North, the firefighters had carried out in the evening about sixty evacuations of inhabitants.

On the spot, the rivers had started to overflow in places with also some flooded streets. This was particularly the case in Esquelbecq where, under a hailstorm and in more than a meter of water, a volunteer firefighter had come to evacuate Inès, 7 years old, as shown by the images of the 20H of TF1 at the head of this article. In his neighborhood, twenty minutes from Saint-Omer, the water had not stopped rising since Saturday evening.

By Sunday evening, the equivalent of three weeks of precipitation had already fallen in 24 hours. So, surprise, Yvette’s family must have been organized very quickly. She had put “everything in height”, she showed us. And now “it starts to happen at the level of cabinets and household appliances”.

In addition, a Facebook post from the firefighters showed a resident evacuated on the back of a firefighter, walking in muddy water reaching her mid-thigh.

A little earlier, in the city center, the inhabitants had dispatched a backhoe loader to shelter around sixty inhabitants. “I was worried,” a resident confided in front of our camera. “Apparently it’s going to rain at least until midnight. So for sure I will have water at home. And that will be the first year,” continued another.

Some had found refuge in a school group, like Jeanine, 80 years old. “I’ve lived there for 58 years, but I’ve never seen it,” she explained.

In the streets of Esquelbecq, the water continued to rise on Sunday and our reporters noted 120 centimeters of water. The firefighters also called for the greatest vigilance.

The North prefecture had activated the departmental operational center (COD) in the afternoon. “Contacts have been made with the mayors of the municipalities concerned who have activated their Communal Safeguard Plan (PCS) in order to inform the population and implement preventive and protective measures”, she added in a press release. .

In the Pas-de-Calais, placed on Sunday morning in orange vigilance, the firefighters recorded in the middle of the afternoon 96 interventions, most for pumping in homes, mainly in Audomarois and in particular in Arques, they indicated. “Some evacuations” of people relocated with relatives were carried out in this area, according to firefighters.
