Mathieu van der Poel started the Mountain Bike World Cup in Albstadt with a victory in the Short Track. The Dutchman won the prologue ahead of Frenchman Victor Koretzky and Nino Schurter.

For this first ‘sprint’ of the season, Schurter was much more offensive than in the performances he is used to in this short format, where half of the usual World Cup points are at stake.

However, he remained helpless in the face of Van der Poel’s final attack. The second best Swiss is Mathias Flückiger, 5th. The Bernese also attempted an attack on the penultimate lap, without success.

In the women’s race, Linda Indergand finished second behind French world champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot. Jolanda Neff had to settle for 13th place, five rows behind Sina Frei. Not ideal for Sunday’s race.
