A major fire broke out on the evening of Sunday, September 5 in Chirens, not far from Voiron in Isère. At the height of the intervention, nearly 90 firefighters were dispatched to the site. The fire started around 6.30 p.m. in the hangar of a private person containing about twenty cars. Its origin has not yet been determined.
The flames quickly spread to the entire 2,000 m² hangar as well as to an adjoining house, threatening neighboring dwellings. In total, around twenty residents had to be evacuated by firefighters during the intervention. The inhabitants were taken care of in a communal room while waiting to be able to return to their accommodation, during the evening. No casualties were reported.
Firefighters dealt with the flames using three fire hoses. The D1075 departmental road was blocked for 4 hours on Sunday evening.
