SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It wasn’t the third round Tony Finau of Utah had hoped for when he walked into the clubhouse and carded a three over par. 73.

Finau, 31, started the round terrible after a bogey at the opening hole. He then continued par the next three holes, but on the fifth par 4 hole he made another bogey.

It got worse and worse as Finau completed the first nine holes when he was on seven and eight consecutive bogeys made. He made the turn at 4 over par.

Fortunately, Finau secured two birdies on par 4 12th and par 4 17th, but he finished his round with his 5th bogey on par 4 and 17th went into the final round with a draw with 13th and 14th strokes behind the leader Patrick Cantlay.

Finau is vying for his best FedEx Cup finish of all time. In 2018 he finished the season in 6th place. He finished second in the Tour Championship, but with another poor performance in the finals, it remains uncertain whether he will finish in the top five.

Finau will play in the playoffs alongside Jason Kokrak -Final. They will tee off at 10:45 am.

The next big tournament is the Ryder Cup, due to start on September 24th at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin. Finau has yet to secure an official Ryder Cup spot, but is expected to be announced as one of the last six entrants for Team USA when the announcement is released next week.
