The final weekend of the 2021 NFL season has arrived and begins with an AFC West battle. The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Denver Broncos, and the two teams will go in different directions once the season is over. The game kicks off today at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC. It will also stream on ESPN.com, ESPN APP, NFL.com, NFL App, and Yahoo Sports App.

The Chiefs (11-5) have clinched a playoff berth but need a win to secure the No.1 seed and a first-round pass. They’ll also need the Tennessee Titans to lose their game to seed the AFC as they have the tiebreaker against the Chiefs after beating them earlier this year. Last week, the Chiefs fell to the Cincinnati Bengals 34-31, who ended their eight-game winning streak.

“Between the big games and the penalties, that’s what attracted us,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said of the loss last week on the team’s official website. “You learn from it – as coaches and players – that’s all you can do. The guys fought and played aggressive football, we just failed against a good team. We will go back, study it and try to improve you. ”

The Broncos (7-9) have been eliminated from the playoffs and this is the sixth year in a row they haven’t played in the playoffs. The last time the Broncos made the playoffs was in 2015, when Peyton Manning was quarterback and led the team to a Super Bowl victory. In the past six years, the Broncos haven’t had a 10-game winning season and have had just one winning season in that span, in 2016.

“There’s a certain barrier that I noticed that we just haven’t overcome,” Broncos safety Justin Simmons said, according to the team’s official website. “… At the end of the day, you have to find ways to win close games. There are going to be games where things just happen, the ball doesn’t roll your way no matter what. But when the games we are lucky to win, the loved ones, it’s them that matter. Now at the end of the year, there’s room for a little mistake, right? You put yourself in a corner like that and you can’t find the means to win the close matches, that’s when things start to get out of hand. We’ve been in close games – obviously not today – but most of the season. We just haven’t won them.
