In recent days, Epic Games has inaugurated an interactive museum in Fortnite dedicated to Journey Through Time, an educational event on the civil rights of African Americans organized in collaboration with Time Magazine. From Rosa Parks to Martin Luther King: Full details about the initiative below.

Among the virtual initiatives hosted by Fortnite, there are now also museums. In particular, in recent days, Epic Games has inaugurated an interactive museum dedicated to Journey Through Time, an educational event on the civil rights of African Americans organized in collaboration with Time Magazine. And it is precisely from the cover of the historic magazine that the initiative within Fortnite begins, organized to educate its players on the theme of racism and history.

The event allows participating users to retrace the most important steps taken by the African-American community to obtain civil rights: from Rosa Parks’ gesture against racial segregation on public transport, which led to the boycott of buses in Montgomery, at Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech, “I Have a Dream”, delivered on August 28, 1963 in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. For the occasion, Epic Games also added eight emotes, including a sit-in and a demonstration.

However, alongside these, the company gave the option to activate any other type of emote available, generating grotesque situations, like users disguised as Batman or Rick Sanchez from Rick & Morty dedicated to dancing and dancing. the Lincoln Memorial pool joke while Martin’s aforementioned Luther King speech echoes. This prompted Epic Games to disable all emotes, except for the eight specs created specifically for the event, in order to avoid further disrespectful situations.

Beyond these unpleasant events, it is interesting to see Fortnite as a place of further experimentation for the teaching and education of young people. For the future, Epic Games will have to be less naive so as not to allow users to ridicule valid initiatives like the one outlined here, which can bring video games closer to the educational sphere.
