At Daytona, the drivers entered in the NASCAR Cup Series will ride with a new aerodynamic package, unknown due to the lack of testing.

Following Joey Logano’s crash at Talladega last spring, NASCAR made the decision to once again modify the aero package for the Daytona and Talladega races. By reducing the holes in the tapered struts, from 57 / 64th to 53 / 64th of an inch, but also removing the upper portion of the spoiler, NASCAR hopes to reduce speed to 7-10 mph.

The behavior of the cars should also be different. At what point ? No one really knows this due to the lack of pre-race practice.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. can also advance to the playoffs today at Daytona, but he has no choice but to win. JTG driver Daugherty Racing believes that the changes brought by this new package will bring different challenges for the drivers.

It probably won’t be that quick. On the one hand, that’s good. It’s a little easier for us to run hard and maybe not make so many mistakes trying to block other people’s runs at the last minute.

NASCAR’s stated goal is to prevent cars from overturning in crashes, as Joey Logano did at Talladega, or Ryan Newman at the 2020 DAYTONA 500.
