Mistreated by Spain, the France team finally got away with a controversial goal from Kylian Mbappé scored ten minutes from time.

While the PSG striker is in an offside position when receiving the ball, the referee justifies his choice since Eric Garcia simply touched the leather in his tackle. But this explanation does not seem to convince the side of the Iberian country …

For Marca, Madrid sports daily, “the referee knows that the goal is not valid”. The newspaper attacks Anthony Taylor, the referee of this final. “In the first half, a hand from Koundé in the French area could have been whistled. But it will not be after a quick discussion with the VAR.”

In its front page, the Spanish media do not go through four paths and headline: “They are destroying football”, then speaking of a “new and ridiculous offside rule”.

Mundo Deportivo, famous Catalan sports newspaper, develops its front page around a play on words. “VARapalo” (varapalo meaning “blow of the club” in the language of Cervantes). The newspaper returns to this “controversy” around the VAR against a Roja who “did not deserve to lose”.

For its part, As, Madrid’s other sports newspaper, prefers to highlight the excellent work shown by Luis Enrique’s men. The daily, full of hope, headlines: “Without a trophy, but with a future”. However, and like their colleagues, they return to Mbappé’s goal. “France overthrows Spain thanks to a jewel of Benzema and a controversial goal of Mbappé since the VAR does not grant a flagrant offside to the star of the PSG”.
