UPDATE 7:05 p.m.: A 58-year-old woman has died after falling 50 meters from a waterfall in the far north.

Emergency services conducted a search and rescue in Windin Falls in the Tablelands on Sunday afternoon.

The Queensland Police Service said initial information suggested she fell from the top of the falls just before 1 p.m.

Paramedics, firefighters, police and the SES were tasked with the Windin Falls in Wooroonooran National Park on the Tablelands.

A QFES spokeswoman said the Rescue 510 helicopter had been hired to assist with the search and rescue effort.

Windin Falls is a popular spot for hikers with a natural infinity pool at the top that slopes down into a valley below.

It’s approximately a 90-minute hike to reach Malanda Waterfall via the Old Cairns Track.

Visitors are warned to exercise extreme caution on the track due to the heavy falls at the edges.

Ambulance communication back and forth from the remote area is limited due to the remoteness and mountainous terrain.
