Currently in development, the next film The Expendables unveils its cast with 50 Cent and Megan Fox as newcomers.
Released in 2010, Sylvester Stallone’s first film carried the biggest names in action movies of the 1980s – Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger – and paired them with other international stars of martial arts and more recent action stars. The film had two sequels, a second with Jean-Claude Van Damme as antagonist and a third opus with Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford and Antonio Banderas.
A fourth opus has been in development for some time and in particular a spin-off carried by Jason Statham.
Our colleagues from the Hollywood Reporter report exclusively the first names of the cast of the next The Expendables. The media indicate that Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Sylvester Stallone, who starred in the three previous installments, will reprise their roles in what will be the fourth film. Curtis “50” Jackson, Megan Fox and Tony Jaa are the newcomers.
The film, which kicks off filming in October, will be directed by stuntman Scott Waugh from a script by Spenser Cohen and edited by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly. Details are kept under wraps, but the film will once again focus on a group of veteran mercenaries. It is said that the film will not be Expendables 4, but the project centered on the character of Jason Statham. Megan Fox will be holding the first female role.
Jason Statham is also a producer with Kevin King Templeton as well as Les Weldons, Yariv Lerner, Jeffrey Greenstein and Jonathan Yunger of Millennium.
“It’s so much fun bringing these stars together for one unrestrained action flick,” said Jason Constantine, president of acquisitions and co-productions for Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, in a statement. ‘The new film will raise the stakes and will be the biggest and badass adventure yet.
“Popcorn entertainment is guaranteed,” said Millennium President Jeffrey Greenstein, adding that the new additions to the roster were meant to “stay fresh and fun.”
