Switzerland announced on Wednesday that it had ended negotiations on the institutional framework agreement which should govern bilateral relations with the European Union. Brussels for its part expressed its “regrets”.
After months of procrastination, Switzerland has put an end to negotiations on its relations with the EU, the government announced on Wednesday (May 26th), which risks arousing the wrath of Brussels.
Speaking at a press conference, Swiss President Guy Parmelin announced that the confederation was “putting an end” to its negotiations on the agreement aimed at homogenizing the legal framework concerning Switzerland’s participation in the EU single market and establish a dispute settlement mechanism.
The European Commission has expressed its “regret”: “We regret this decision, given the progress made in recent years to make the institutional framework agreement a reality,” said the European executive in a press release.
