The Philippine men’s national soccer team drew 1-1 with the Maldives on Wednesday (Manila time) and finished third in their joint qualifying tournament for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Group.

Angel Guirado brought the Azkals onto the board after 19 minutes at Sharjah Stadium in the United Arab Emirates, but striker Ali Fasir wasted no time in negating this with a goal of his own 6 minutes later.

The draw earned Scott Cooper’s team 11 points in 8 games, good for third place in Group A. The Filipinos ended their season with 3 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses.

The Philippines were already safely through the final round of qualifying for the Asian Cup entered the game.
