SAN FRANCISCO – Giants catcher Buster Posey played catch on the field at Oracle Park Thursday morning and will remain on the active squad for the club’s series final against the Dodgers after leaving the game on Wednesday dizzy.

Posey fouled Dodgers midfielder A.J. Pollock jumped off his catcher mask in the second inning of the Giants 8-0 loss to Los Angeles and was removed before the top of the fourth.

Posey was initially able to stay in the game and checked in with the Giants coaches in the dugout after the second inning, but after a 38-pitch third inning from Anthony DeSclafani, in which the Dodgers scored four runs, Posey was backed up Curt Casali replaced.

The Giants screened Posey for a concussion, but he was not diagnosed with one and was cleared to remain on the active squad on Thursday.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler pointed out that the club are hoping Posey will be available from the bank, but it seems unlikely that the club laid the foundation for a day after he “rang his bell” would lay the franchise, as Kapler detailed on Wednesday.

“He could get out of here and play catch and bike and we feel good with him,” said Kapler on Thursday. “We’ll try to prepare him for the bank today.”

The Giants brought catcher Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Sacramento to Oracle Park on Thursday to be available for the taxi squad.

With Brandon Crawford looking for a return, SF Giants have found another major contributor

“We had Tromp here in case Buster comes back and isn’t feeling well today, but he’s feeling much, much better,” said Kapler.

This leaves Casali the only other catcher in the active squad who could put the Giants in a really difficult position if the club is reluctant to use Posey and needs another backstop in an emergency. Kapler said he wasn’t 100% sure which player to catch if both Posey and Casali were unavailable, but versatile utility player Thairo Estrada and first baseman Darin Ruf are key considerations.

Prior to Kapler’s update on Posey, the Giants made multiple squad moves on Thursday as club shortstop activated Brandon Crawford and pitcher Aaron Sanchez from the injured list, named outfielder Mike Tauchman for assignment and optional rescuer John Brebbia to Triple-A Sacramento .
