At their first face-to-face meeting on Monday, Secretary of State S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed ways to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, the situation in the Indo-Pacific and issues related to climate change.

S Jaishankar and Secretary Blinken held the talks in London on the sidelines of the meeting of G7 foreign ministers.

In a series of tweets, S. Jaishankar said that he had conveyed Blinken appreciation for the US’s support for India in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic

“It’s nice to meet my old friend @SecBlinken in person. Detailed discussion of the global Covid challenge, which is focused on expanded vaccine manufacturing capabilities and reliable supply chains,” he tweeted.

The Foreign Secretary said the meeting also covered issues related to the Indo-Pacific, climate change and the UN Security Council.

“We have the strong US support for India in during this difficult time, especially for oxygen and remdesivir. Our meeting also dealt with issues relating to the Indo-Pacific, the UN Security Council, Myanmar and climate change, “he said.

S Jaishankar and Blinken discussed the COVID in depth. 19 challenge and the immediate demands of India.

Blinken assured Jaishankar that the US will be closely monitoring developments and will respond positively to Indian demands.

The next shipment of medical supplies from the US will soon land in India, the sources added.

Jaishankar was also advised that providing India with oxygen and related equipment will continue to be the top US priority.
