The Californication rockers shared the news of a worldwide tour to returning classical guitarist John Frusciante for the anniversary of their Blood Sugar Sex Magik album.
The Californication rockers announced the news with a fake video featuring the front man Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea played American news anchors in the KHOT News Room, while their drummer Chad Smith played the cheesy weatherman.
John Frusciante, who played himself in the sketch, shared the news during the mock interview that they would go on a world tour from June next year.
The dates and countries of the tour have yet to be confirmed but it is more than likely that the band will play a huge show in the UK.
The tour will mark their first series of live dates since the return of guitarist John Frusciante, who returned to the band late last year.
On Instagram from Flea’s official account on December 15, 2020, they wrote: “The Red Hot Chili Peppers announce that we are separating from our guitarist of the last ten years, Josh Klinghoffer. Josh is a beautiful musician that we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him and the countless gifts he has shared with us.
“We also announce with great excitement and with all our hearts that John Frusciante is rejoining our group.”
John Frusciante first came to Red Hot Chili Peppers when he was only 18 years old after Hillel Slovak died of a heroin overdose in 1988.
Frusciante suffered his own battle with heroin addiction that made him – after he left the band in 1992 – almost killed.
Although he rejoined the band in 1998 and released Californication in 1999 and By The Way in 2002, Stadium Arcadium (2006) would be the last album he would make with Anthony Kiedis and co.
However, the band has already confirmed that new music is in the works, so we can most likely expect them to debut their new music on tour.
