Several people were struck by a TER train on Tuesday morning, near Saint-Jean-de-Luz station, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, according to information from RTL which has been confirmed to us. The train had left Hendaye and was heading for Bordeaux. The incident took place around 6 a.m. 500 meters from Saint-Jean-de-Luz train station, in the town of Ciboure.
At least three people have died, according to a still provisional toll. A fourth person is in dire need of a broken leg and has been taken to hospital. The four people were lying on the tracks when they were struck by the train, confirms a police source. Specialized teams intervened on the tracks before 8 a.m.
Since then, traffic on the Bordeaux-Hendaye axis has been able to resume gradually, although the trains should “circulate cautiously near Saint-Jean-de-Luz,” SNCF said. No TER passenger was injured.

The judicial police are expected on site. An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
