AN ALLEGED member of a syndicate with ties to the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf bandits, who was flagged as the prime suspect in the murder of a retired police officer in Zamboanga city more than a year ago, was arrested on Monday August 2nd. Police identified the arrested suspects as Jimbo Taning Asani, who was arrested by joint police and military forces under an intelligence-driven arrest warrant in Sitio Sayugan, Barangay Maganda, Lamitan City, Basilan Province.

Police said Asani was the prime suspect in the murder of Edwin Solis, a retired police officer, on March 11, 2020 in the village of Sangali, east of Zamboanga City. Solis was buying a cigarette in a store when the suspect arrived and shot the victim without any provocation. Police said the suspect was a member of the local gun and drug syndicate formerly run by the late Abner Muharram aka Small Boy. for-hire and drug syndicate under the direction of Danny Hajiri Bairulla and has a connection to the Abu Sayyaf bandits in Tuburan, Basilan number seven of the most wanted persons in the Zamboanga City Police Department.
