Gilas Pilipinas wants to defy all chances in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) with an all-amateur team.

Given the uncertainties surrounding the PBA, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) decided to send a young squad without professional basketball experience to major FIBA tournaments this year.

Gilas has earned a spot in the OQT which will be held in Belgrade, Serbia from June 29th to July 4th after New Zealand resigned on COVID concerns.

The Philippines will face Serbia and the Dominican Republic in the group stage.

The squad doesn’t lose hope, however, as Gilas Pilipinas program director Tab Baldwin talks about how to play out his strengths, how this team is filled with top talent, and how he wants to build a cadre of executives. –
