PL: Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace offers a first big blow against leader Tottenham
In a relatively closed start, Lucas Moura first tried to liven up the debates with characteristic overlaps, without breaking through the wall. Then, after only 12 minutes of play, Eric Dier, the boss of the defense of Spurs, got down to the ground touching the back of the thigh … and finally left his partners, injured. He was then replaced by Joe Rodon, who went to position himself next to Japhet Tanganga, replaced this afternoon in the axis to leave the right lane to Emerson. In front, deprived of Heung-min Son or even Steven Bergwijn, Tottenham struggled to be sharp. So Palace chased high. So that Wilfried Zaha armed a shot at the near post by entering inside from the left, countered for a corner (34 ‘). The first wick. The Eagles then multiplied the centers to find Christian Benteke in the box, but without managing to serve him in the right conditions. Zaha, again, on an opening to the left side of Joachim Andersen, had fun with Emerson, before rushing to the surface, to find young Gallagher at the near post! He then hit point blank … on Hugo Lloris (43rd)!
Upon returning from the locker room, Lucas, alerted on the outskirts of the opponent’s area after a loss of Palace ball, fired the first shot on target for the match for Spurs (47th). The game got carried away and, on a center propelled to the penalty spot by Zaha, Gallagher tried on the fly … Land in emergency by Rodon (50th). Zaha and Tanganga then warmed up, causing a crowd, before being both warned. And, under the cheerful chants of Selhurst Park, Tanganga was scooped in a second yellow for a late tackle almost in stride (58th). Zaha, again, punched again in his lane, then found Jordan Ayew at the far post, in the box, who saw his shot be blocked (66th). Moments later, Lloris, lobed by a cross from the left of Tyrick Mitchell, was assisted by Sergio Reguilón, who saved on his line (73rd). But, Ben Davies, badly entered after the exclusion of Tanganga, countered with the hand a center of Gallagher (74th): penalty. There, Zaha was responsible for converting the test without trembling and Tottenham conceded their first goal of the season (1-0, 76th). A small event. But not the only one: just entered, Odsonne Edouard increased the score on his first ball, with a left-footed shot from the penalty spot, after another tumble from Zaha (2-0, 84th). Move of mercy ? Not yet. Edouard offered himself a double to further push the leader, at the buzzer (3-0, 90th 3). With this great prestige success, Palace moved back to eleventh place in the Premier League table, while Spurs conceded their first defeat of the season. Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United can now get past them.
