BTS ’V and the world-famous Prince Kim Taehyung will be on 30. December 2020 25 years old! What could be nicer than celebrating the occasion than planning your extraordinary musical journey from a doe-eyed apprentice in a small business to a multi-million dollar singer / actor / fashion icon who is the second largest single and very first Korean artist First place is birthday display on Burj Khalifa. Kim Taehyung has come a long way and it has not been easy in the least. While his success with BTS as a phenomenon that changed the world will go down in music history, his personal growth as an artist, producer and composer is worth all of the world’s love and appreciation. Kim Taehyung deserves the world.
Taehyung received his first official accreditation for musical composition in 2015 for co-writing and co-producing the song “Hold Me Tight” from “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1”. . Nothing expresses the desperation of an abandoned lover but the slow groove and constant tapping that is characteristic of “Hold Me Tight”. . The lyrics are too close to home for anyone who has ever felt a touch of love and loss. “Hold Me Tight” conveys a constant sense of time and tries to hold it back at the same time. At such a young age, Taehyung did nothing less than a masterful job with it.
“Boyz With Fun,” one of BTS ‘most famous songs, one that is still the first to introduce BTS, and one that is still very much loved by ARMYs, was written in part by Taehyung. “Boyz With Fun” is in the best possible way diametrically opposed to “Hold Me Tight”. V really showed his reach and ability to cover all of the basics with the texts for this one. The same person who might draw your heart on “Hold Me Tight” could get you to hand-hit on “Boyz With Fun” too. . Considering this was literally at the beginning of his musical career, his talent was truly beyond compare.
Another evergreen song from BTS that still gives goose bumps to every single ARMY when they play, “Run”, was melodies by Kim Taehyung. This fact is different when you think about the fate of V’s character in the BTS universe, especially in the music video for “Run”. . Anyone familiar with the BTS lore would know exactly why this is important. The genre of the song is dance music that matches the lyrics, but the underlying melody had a sad undertone that is effectively reflected in the music video. Once again, V’s musical genius was at work and he knew exactly what he was doing.
V’s first solo release, “Stigma”, marked the birth of his own musical genre that no other existing genre can relate to. V himself describes it as neo-soul, which speaks volumes about his music studies. It was in “Stigma” that V found his original sound and it was evident in the sheer amount of personality that “Stigma” created. . There was also a strong sense of self-expression and self-esteem that was evident in this track, particularly through the staccato singing and inimitable falsettos. A closer look at the lyrics reveals the depth of catharsis he is striving for through this song, which fits perfectly with his character arc in the Bangtan universe. V becomes a force to be reckoned with.
Perhaps Kim Taehyung’s most popular solo work was and is “Intro: Singularity” and the reason for this is that it is so incredibly unique that there has never been anything like it in the K-Pop industry. “Singularity” took notes from “Stigma” and enhanced its haunting beauty with influences from R&B. V is indulgent to his sensuality and expresses deep sadness and pain through his lyrics, a connection that was only possible because it was Kim Taehyung.
Inspired by Jimin and V’s infamous “Dumpling Incident”, V’s skill as a lyricist and composer really shines in his duet with RM “4” O’Clock. . Matching an acoustic Spanish guitar and an accompanying soft melody, V’s voice is the focus of the first part of the song and he lets RM’s deep-voiced, hard-hitting rap take over the second half. The variety is ideal and he knows exactly how the two complement each other. To do so while the world is watching in awe is an incredible feat in and of itself.
‘Scenery’ was Taehyung’s first solo release outside of BTS and he allowed his artistic prowess to reign freely on his musical canvas to create the soundscape of ‘Scenery’. . The song is a beautiful slow ballad that focuses entirely on Taehyung’s beautiful voice. It’s breathless and soft as a whisper of warmth on a cold winter night. The song sounds like Hiraeth – a longing for something or someone that doesn’t exist. You cry but you don’t know why or for whom. There is a strange melancholy running through the veins of the song, but it’s all too familiar at the same time. “Scenery” hit millions of streams immediately after its release, but V sings like he’s doing it just for you. If Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” were a song, it would probably be “Landscape”.
“Winter bear” feels like a natural extension of “landscape”, albeit with the feeling of “lost and found”. What was melancholy in “Scenery” is rediscovered with a touch of sunshine in “Winter Bear”. . It is a call to inactivity, a permit to rest, to take a break, a much-needed rest. Rock and folk influences are abundant but subtle, and the vocals are exceptionally smooth, similar to a lullaby. “Vante” is written above “Winterbär”.
If the stars in the sky could sing the world to sleep after a long, hard day, it would sound like V’s “Inner Child”. . What begins with a sweet, medium-paced first verse turns into the most beautiful prelude to a sincere promise that you made to yourself. Growth never comes without pain and that is exactly what V explains through this contemporary R&B track, which is adequately supported by choral-like backing vocals. It is reminded that V talks about how the difficult times he went through to get to where he is now during the 5th. Pattern Magic Shops from BTS in Seoul don’t seem that difficult anymore. He uses the metaphor of a peeling towel and translates the same feeling into a song in “Inner Child”. . The exact words were: “I bought an exfoliating towel yesterday. When I was a boy and my dad would scrub my back and sometimes it hurt so much that I cried. But I found out that it doesn’t hurt anymore. I must have grown up thanks to the ARMY. It’s a magical thing. On the other hand, we all seem to be becoming better people thanks to BTS.
Taehyung’s little present to his best friend Park Seo Joon was an OST for the actor’s incredible 2020 K-drama “Itaewon Class”. . “Sweet Night” echoes the breathless, ethereal tone of Taehyung’s previous solo releases such as “Scenery” and “Singularity”, but is uniquely refreshing in the feel it conveys. There is a strong sense of vulnerability, tenderness and almost fragility in this song that perfectly expresses the palpable fear of missing out on something, losing a chance or letting go of someone to hold on to. The “fragile truth” must be treated with care and a pair of hands can no longer do that. The determination is sure, but the nervousness is just as real. None other than V could have adequately combined this gentle truth with the airy elegance that is characteristic of V’s voice.
It’s no news that this year has been quite difficult for the world, and although the first thing that comes to mind when you think of winter is the cold, sharp gusts of wind, and uncomfortable weather, winter brings you to V winter comes with an inherent warmth and cosiness that you can find in the things and people you love. The genre of the song is classic jazz and R&B and V’s subtly sultry voice is just the warmth we needed. Just like a melting snowflake, the negativity, sadness and longing – the “blues and grays” (a smart call-back to BTS ‘”Blue & Gray”) – are gone with the arrival of the first snow. Christmas without BTS wouldn’t be Christmas at all. Similar to “4” O “Clock”, Peakboys feature is next to V a singing couple made in heaven. “Snow Flower” is just a glimpse of the ingenious masterpiece that will be Kim Taehyung’s first mixtape, and we can’t wait to see what this otherworldly artist has in store for us.
Wish Taehyung a happy birthday with us and let Pinkvilla know your thoughts in the comments section below!
Congratulations to every ARMY winter bear
