INTERVIEW – As Total becomes TotalEnergies, its CEO explains how the group is meeting the challenge of the post-oil period.

On Friday, Total’s general meeting renamed the group the name TotalEnergies. A resolution on the climate was also adopted: it provides for carbon neutrality by 2050. The group thus confirms its turn towards others in Energies than oil. Its CEO, Patrick Pouyannà ©, explains the underlying reasons for this change and its consequences for the 105,000 employees.

LE FIGARO. – Does the change of Total’s name really mark the transition to a new era?

Patrick POUYANNÃ ??. – We didnâ € ™ t wake up one morning saying to ourselves that we had to make upheavals. The governing bodies of TotalEnergies have taken the measure of a paradigm shift which has accelerated in recent years. Until 2015, our objectives were volume and profitability: “more production, more profitable”.
