The Chinese duo Hao You and Yang Liu largely dominated the final at the end of which the French finished at the foot of the podium on Monday.
No medal for Samir Aït Saïd. The flag bearer of the French delegation, with Clarisse Agbégnénou, finished in 4th place in the rings competition of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Monday, August 2. The Chinese Yang Liu won the gold medal, ahead of his compatriot Hao You and the Greek Eleftherios Petrounias.
Sixth gymnast in the starting order, Samir Aït Saïd took the provisional 3rd place thanks to a score of 14.900, the best in history for a Frenchman on this apparatus despite a small execution fault. But, he was immediately pushed off the podium by Greek competitor and title holder Eleftherios Petrounias, third and last competitor to pass the 15 point mark, with a score of 15,200.
The competition was quickly padlocked by the Chinese duo Hao You and Yang Liu. The first set the tone with a score of 15,300, including an 8,700 on performance. His compatriot pushed the bar even higher, with an execution score of 9,000 for a passage to 15,500.
Samir Aïd Saïd had scored despite himself at the Rio Games in 2016. On his passage to vault during qualifying, he suffered a double tibia-fibula fracture in his left leg. The French fought to return to the best level, notably by winning a bronze medal at the Stuttgart Worlds in 2019.
