There will be no Cameroonians in the semi-finals of the 50m freestyle of the Olympic Games (JO) Tokyo 2020. The two representatives of the country of the Indomitable Lions were eliminated in the general classification even if they improved their individual records.
For men Charly Ndjoume finished first in the second series. The 34-year-old swimmer clocked 27 seconds 22. A result that allowed him to beat his personal best which so far was 27 seconds 78. Ditto for Norah Elisabeth Milanesi at the same distance for the women. The Cameroonian improved her personal best (27 seconds 13) by setting a time of 26 seconds 41. The gold medalist in the 50m butterfly and silver in the 50m freestyle at the last African Games in zone 2 (2019) has finished first in the fifth round.
The young Cameroonian shone during this 7th edition of the African Swimming Championship. His good performances earned him to validate his ticket to Tokyo. The competition was held in Accra, the Ghanaian capital, from March 5 to 8, 2020. It is also thanks to this title obtained at only 16 that she qualifies for the next Olympic Games in Tokyo where she finishes at a honorable 11th place. Now 17, she has no doubt the future of swimming in Cameroon
