Climbing makes its Olympic debut this Tuesday in Tokyo. Climbers compete in three independent tests: the “difficulty” which consists of climbing as high as possible on a wall of about fifteen meters, the “boulder” where climbers have to climb boulders of 4.5 meters in height, and the “speed”, test where you have to make the best possible time on a course known by heart.

In this last category, Bassa Mawem made a strong impression during qualifying. The French climbed at lightning speed like Spiderman to fly over the first day with a time of 5”45, far ahead of the Japanese Narasaki (5”94) and his brother, Mickael Mawem (5”95). The siblings of Guyanese origin will aim for the medal in Tokyo during the final scheduled for Thursday (2:10 p.m.).

climbing at the Olympics becomes anything like Unesco. When will the jump rope, the mistigri and why not the pizza?
