After Honduras (squad), Canada and El Salvador, the two other opponents of the USA published their squads in the opening window of the 2022 World Cup qualification.
USA: squad revealed The four teams will operate as a pod in September and each play against the other three teams during the three-game window: Sept. 2 El Salvador vs. USA Canada vs. HondurasSept. 5 USA vs. Canada El Salvador vs. Honduras Sept. 8 Honduras vs. USA Canada vs. El Salvador
Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama will also play three games against each other. Canada’s two big stars – Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and French champion Lilles Jonathan David – are back in the national team after missing the Gold Cup. Davies and David are among the four Canadians who will play in the UEFA Champions League this fall. Atiba Hutchinson (who also skipped the Gold Cup) and Cyle Larin play for the Turkish champions. Eleven MLS players are part of John Herdman’s team, including Tajon Buchanan, who was named best youth player at the Gold Cup and who will move from the New England Revolution to the Belgian champions Club Brugge in January. Of the players who started the Gold Cup in the 1-0 loss to the USA, only former US U-17 and U-20 Ayo Akinola, who was injured in the game, is not back.
