A 70-year-old man was shot dead at his home in Bousbecque (Nord) on the night of Thursday 23 to Friday 24 September during a burglary that went wrong, AFP learned from the mayor and a police source.

Around 2:30 a.m., burglars shot dead the septuagenarian before fleeing with loot estimated at 500 euros, a police source told AFP, specifying that the victim’s wife was not affected.

Contacted, the mayor Joseph Lefebvre (without label) of this town of about 5000 inhabitants located on the Belgian border confirmed the information. “You can imagine the shock and the emotion that this arouses, it is a human tragedy”, he reacted. Several individuals are wanted, said the police source. The Lille judicial police were seized of the investigation.
