Serie A leaders AC Milan drew 1-1 with Lille in the Europa League on Thursday after a well-functioning goal from Jonathan Bamba canceled Samu Castillejo’s effort for the Italian side.
The result leaves Lille at the top of Group H with eight points, one point ahead of Milan, and two more games with qualification for the knockout round are not yet secured after Sparta Prague to six points with their victory over Celtic has advanced.
Lille almost took the lead early on when Sandro Tonali lost the ball near his penalty area and Yusuf Yazici scored a shot on goal. Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, however, was relieved to see it curled up widely.
Tonali then made up for an almost costly mistake with a great pass in the first minute of the second half, leaving Ante Rebic free, who pulled it back for Castillejo to score the first goal.
Lille pulled back almost 20 minutes later when a quick throw-in caught the Milan defense unprepared and Jonathan David was able to control a cross with a clever pass movement to hit Bamba, who found the back of the net with a deflected shot.
Napoli beat Croatian side Rijeka 2-0 in their first game since Diego Maradona died on Thursday.
Carlos Vinicius scored his first goals for Tottenham in a comfortable win over Ludogorets, moving closer to a place in the Europa League of the last 32.
Tottenham Hotspur brought Ludogorets Razgrad to their knees in a 4-0 Group J win in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Stewart Robson says Nicolas Pepe and Reiss Nelson grew for Arsenal in the Europa League.
Nicolas Pepe was responsible for Arsenal’s goalless draw in Leeds last weekend, but he was dynamite for Arsenal in their Europa League win at Molde.
