The New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor will retire from test cricket after the two-game series against Bangladesh and will play his last limited overs international matches against Australia and the Netherlands this summer.
The 37-year-old has been a mainstay of the since his test debut in 2007 Black Caps and has set a New Zealand record of 7,584 runs in 110 games with an average of 44.87.
As one of only four New Zealanders to take 100 tests, he also holds the national record for one-day international runs ( 8,581) and centuries (21) and was the first in the world to play 100 internationals in all formats.
“It was an amazing journey and I am incredibly happy to see my country s o represented for a long time, “said the former captain in a statement.
” It was a privilege to play with and against some of the greats of the game and to make so many memories and friendships.
Taylor made the winning streaks when New Zealand beat India to win the first Test World Championship in Southampton that year, but career speculation has been since a recent troubled period in India where he failed to surpass 11 runs in four innings, “His skills and temperament as a batsman were world class and his ability to play at such a high level for so long speaks volumes for his longevity and professionalism,” he said.
“His experience has has held the team together on countless occasions and its catch record speaks for itself. We’ll no doubt miss him when he’s gone. “
Taylor will continue playing for his provincial Central District team until the end of the season before addressing his future in domestic cricket.
