The former Bristol City striker started last week with Boros beating Plymouth 2-1 and trained with the squad during a week-long camp in Cornwall.

Neil Warnock appears to be sticking to a back three and full-backs against York with Djed Spence standing in line on the left.

New signing Matt Crooks, who scored against Plymouth, has also kept his place in the starting XI.

Crooks is supported in midfield by Boro captain Jonny Howson , who will play for the first time in the pre-season after an injury setback.

Former Leeds and Cardiff defender Sol Bamba has also trained with Boro in recent weeks and was called to the bench against York.

There is no place in the squad for Hayden Coulson, who is expected to sign on loan at Ipswich.

Marc Bola has also been left out as he continues to recover from hernia surgery.
