THE Department of Labor and Industry (Dole) 7 released more than 15 million pesos of subsistence and cash assistance to Tupad Program beneficiaries and foreign Filipino workers (OFWs) in four communities in northern Cebu. Dole Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III was in Cebu last week to release the grant to a total of 1,921 beneficiaries in the parishes of Medellin, Santa Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan.

The breakdown is as follows: • In Medellín 37 associations with 977 members received a living allowance worth almost 11 million pesos. The amount is used to finance the beneficiaries’ various livelihood projects, e.g. B. Motorcycle parts and repairs; Pig breeding and marketing; Rental of chairs, tables and tents; and muscovado production and marketing, among others. • In Madridejos, 464 Tupad beneficiaries received their salaries, totaling 1.8 million pesos. • In the city of Bantayan, more than 400,000 pesos were paid as salaries to 100 Tupad workers. • In Santa Fe, a total of 1.2 million pesos was allocated to the salaries of 302 Tupad workers. Salome O. Siaton, director of Dole 7 said the agency had also provided P185,000 grants to 37 beneficiaries in Santa Fe as part of the Covid-19 Adaptation Actions program. With the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Bello also distributed cash aid worth P510,000 to 41 pandemic OFWs in these four cities as part of OWWA’s programs and services: Dole-Akap, Tabang OFW and Project Ease.Bello said Dole’s implementation of its programs and services amid the Covid-19 pandemic has the support of President Rodrigo Duterte. He said Dole will continue to offer its various programs and services to help workers who have been suffering from the pandemic for more than a year from 37 people from various workers’ organizations.
