Now at the Lakers, Isaiah Thomas is gradually making a name for himself in the big league. Reassuringly, the elf can count on support in the City of Angels, and not the least! A franchise legend has showered him with compliments, not long ago.

So far, it’s safe to say that Isaiah Thomas’s return to the NBA is going pretty well. Not so much on a collective level, with the Lakers having lost their last two games in which he has played. Individually, however, the pocket leader has little to be ashamed of, especially in attack. 19 points against the Timberwolves, 13 against the Bulls including a huge dunk: the guy has not lost any of his talent, despite a very long absence.

The good news for him is that many of the Angelinos are won over by what he shows so far. The same is true of the league’s former glories, who admire the former 60th draft pick for his persistence. Asked about Spectrum Sportsnet, James Worthy was full of praise for IT, saying it was a very good pick for the Crimson and Gold:

I have always loved Isaiah Thomas when he was in Boston before his hip injury. He’s a scorer, a quick scorer too. He knows how to get his points and when he’s hot he can give you 8-10 points quickly. What he doesn’t have defensively, he makes up for with his insight, getting his hands dirty, intercepting, chasing balls.

So he’s a very smart little player, and I think he can inject a lot of energy into the Lakers offense, that’s for sure. With his experience over time he has managed to come back healthier than he ever was, and I think it’s a big plus for us to have him.

Having gone through very difficult times since his (forced) departure from Boston in 2017, Thomas however never gave up on his dream of shining in the NBA and held on until the end. Whether it was his records in the summer leagues or his heartfelt screams in the press, he gave everything and it paid off. If he keeps up the momentum, seeing him stay with the Californians until the end of the season is unlikely.

One can only rejoice in the rebirth of Isaiah Thomas, who remains a rather unique phenomenon in the current league. Let us hope for him that his success can hold, so that his return is final! The Lakers just might need it.
