The driver and passengers of a bus of Bordeaux supporters were assaulted on Wednesday evening at the Lavérune roundabout, at the western gates of Montpellier: 16 injured.

LAST MINUTE / The driver and passengers of a bus were assaulted this Wednesday around 6 p.m. at the Lavérune roundabout, in the Bionne sector, at the western gates of Montpellier. The scene took place near “Chez Paulette”, the well-known fruit and vegetable stall, in the Maurice Gennevaux roundabout. The bus was heading towards the Mosson-la Paillade district.

This is a coach of supporters of the Bordeaux football club on their way to the match against MHSC at the Mosson stadium. According to our information, the bus fell into an ambush, stretched by about fifty supporters of Montpellier. During this spectacular ambush, most of the perpetrators were hooded and armed, especially with iron bars.

The assailants were in many vehicles and appeared to block the bus. They threw stones at the bodywork and windows and lit smoke bombs, forcing the occupants to descend to do battle. Police motorcyclists escorting the bus from the A709 motorway toll booth in Saint-Jean-de-Védas immediately intervened, before receiving reinforcements.

A first assessment reports sixteen light injuries, according to the firefighters of Sdis 34 who dispatched large resources to the site, including several ambulances. The Montpellier public security police are on the scene in large numbers, the attackers managed to escape. The situation calmed down at 7 p.m. Supporters of the Girondins who miss the meeting with at half-time, Bordeaux which leads 2 to 1 against the MHSC. Final score: 3 to 3.

A source close to the investigation confirmed at 7.45 p.m. to Metropolitan, that “consistent clues lead to the trail of an act by a group of MHSC supporters, for a motive still unknown.” Indeed, among the sixteen lightly injured rescued by the firefighters are supporters of the Montpellier club …
