The penultimate round of the season in CFR will be played this weekend between Hérault and Gard, from Vigan to Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort and passing through Ganges.
On the eve of the start of the 62nd edition of the Cévennes rally, a young woman is training in the Gard to try to shine. Sarah Rumeau dreams of a car feat at a time when organizing such a rally is more and more difficult.
Her name is Sarah and is only 26 years old. On the Monteils circuit, near Alès where she teaches the art of piloting on land, she is preparing her first Critérium des Cévennes. An event shared with her co-driver Julie Amblard. Leader of the French Women’s Championship with only 6 rallies on the clock, Sarah Rumeau dreams of a Michelle Mouton-style destiny.
It’s a bit like art. I drive smoothly, I let the car float … We don’t want to be judged as a woman but as a driver.
Establishing herself in a universe of men that has not changed is not a problem for Sarah. She even created an association to help female rally pilots. His thirst for learning as well as his mind impress.
For her first Critérium des Cévennes, Sarah Rumeaux will start with number 30. Like Gard, the department where she lives and trains. Alain Szafarczyk is the linchpin of the Rally, he is the President of ASA Hérault, organizer of the Critérium des Cévennes It is thanks to ASA Hérault and the support of the communities that we will hear the cars sing in the famous Cadière special.
It is a colossal job and it is more and more difficult knowing that we are all volunteers. There are 5 or 6 almost full-time retirees and we can’t do it.
Launch of the Rally, this Thursday evening in Montpellier, with technical verifications. Then the cars will be visible in the Richter district, avenue Raymond Dugrand.
