A team of three suspected burglars were arrested on Saturday, November 20 in Lyon. Three men suspected of having taken part in dozens of burglaries – 56 in total – in the Puy-de-Dôme (in towns around Riom and Clermont-Ferrand) in the Departments of Allier, Saône-et-Loire and Isère.

The investigation started in Veyre-Monton (Puy-de-Dôme) last July. Jewels are stolen from a residence whose occupants are absent.

The first of a long series, of a “wave”, say the gendarmes who, during the summer, identify nearly forty burglaries committed in different municipalities of the Clermont region .

A clue suggests to the investigators of GÃ © lac (1) of the research brigade (BR) of Clermont-Ferrand and of the community of brigades (COB) of Veyre-Monton, in charge of the investigation, that they are probably dealing with the same team: “We noticed that, on certain burglaries, the same operating mode was used”, indicates the director of investigation, assistant to the research brigade of Clermont . “The mailboxes were folded”. No doubt to assess the mass of mail, a sign that the occupants have deserted (or not) the place …

Burglars are in any case capable of knocking several times in a single night. Each time they target silver and gold jewelry. The investigation advances in the summer with the taking of a print in one of the burgled houses. The return of DNA analyzes in September enabled the gendarmes to identify a suspect domiciled in Lyon.

The investigators of the BR of Clermont and the COB of Veyre-Monton then set up surveillance with the support of their colleagues from the central office for the fight against itinerant delinquency (OCLDI). They lead to the identification of a group of men suspected of moving from Isère to Allier to burglarize.

Men in their twenties who were arrested on Saturday, November 20, in the early morning, in a house in Lyon by the Psig (2) of Clermont-Ferrand and the Lyon units of the gendarmerie (the Psig and the intervention squad).

During the search, investigators from Clermont and Veyre-Monton who led this investigation, got their hands on 150 gold jewels, 4,000 euros in cash. They also seized four cars that they allegedly used to get around. Led to the premises of the BR of Clermont to be placed in view, the three men were defended on Monday, November 22 at the Clermont parquet floor. They are to be tried tomorrow, Wednesday, November 24, in immediate appearance.

Fifty-six burglaries are attributed to this team committed between July 1 and November 18, including “fourteen in the Clermont sector and two in the Riom region”, specifies Marie Perrier, commander of the Clermont-Ferrand company. “It’s a very good investigation and four months of investigations that have paid off.”
