(CNN Philippines, July 29) – Jalen Green is widely recognized as one of the best rookies to watch out for in the 2021-2022 NBA season.

The 19-year-old is of Filipino descent and is expected to become be a top 5 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft on July 30th (Philippine time).

Born in Merced, California, Green’s dam, Bree Purganan, is from Ilocos Sur. His maternal grandfather is a thoroughbred Filipino.

Green visited the Philippines for the first time three years ago during the NBTC 2018 tournament where he lined up for the Fil-Am Sports team.

Green returned a year later and played for the same squad at the 2019 NBTC tournament where he played a few highlight roles against the best local high school players.

Green was named Most Valuable Player of the FIBA ​​U17 World Championship after leading Team USA to their fifth straight title in 2018.

Green played alongside top prospects Evan Mobley and Jalen Suggs and led the team with 15.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

Green has decided not to go into college basketball of the US National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and is the NBA G – Joined League Ignite – a team made up of elite NBA draft candidates.
