One person is in critical condition and two others are seriously injured after a train crash west of Rockhampton.

The incident was reportedly called by Aurizon and occurred around 11:40 a.m. near the Capricorn Highway and Huxham Lane in Westwood.

A spokeswoman for the fire and rescue services in Queensland confirmed that a single locomotive train crashed into the back of a coal wagon.

The spokeswoman said the crews would assess the stability of the locomotive and put a foam blanket on a diesel leak.

A QAS spokeswoman said paramedics examined three patients on site, including one patient in critical condition and two men in stable condition, one with an ankle injury and the other with spinal precautions.
