ILOILO CITY – The fire in the Gaisano Grand Mall in San Jose de Buenavista, the capital of the Antique Province, is still going on for more than half a day after the incident started.

“The incident is under control, but it has moved to the mall’s bodega,” said Supt. Randy Pudadera, head of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Antique).

“Our firefighters have moved to the rear part where the bodega is,” said Pudadera in a telephone interview a On Friday morning June 18, Manila Bulletin.

Pudadera said the embers are still there and are now damaging the supplies that arrived prior to the Thursday fire.

“Our firefighters do have PPE and gas masks, but have to go out every now and then to breathe fresh air, ”explained Pudadera.

According to initial information, the fire broke out around 5 p.m. Thursday on the second floor of the mall. No injuries were reported as the mall visitors and mall staff were given ample time to evacuate the mall. But Pudadera confirmed that part of the mall’s ceiling had collapsed.

BFP trucks, BFP personnel and even volunteer fire departments from neighboring towns in Antique, Iloilo, Iloilo City and Aklan province responded to help control the fire to help.

At the time of going to press, the BFP had not determined either the cause of the incident or the extent of the damage.
